Welcome to the Start An Airbnb Resources section, a thorough list of the tools I strongly recommend for starting and streamlining your Airbnb. I have either used or tested every recommendation on this page. Many of the tools listed here are critical to running my Airbnb.
By far the most useful tool I use for my Airbnb. Your smartphone now acts as the key. Give your guests the ability to lock/unlock from their phone. You control who has access and is compatible with most standard deadbolts. Simple, secure, and safe.
Give yourself remote access to your home. August connect gives you the control to your August Smart Lock from anywhere you have an internet connection. I love this because I never have to wonder if guests leave the door unlocked after they check out. I can always lock it from my phone, no matter where I am.
Give yourself and your guest peace of mind with these little cameras. Quick and easy to set up. Receive alerts on your phone when Nest Cam detects activity. Most of all, you can opt for 24/7 live video recording in case of break-ins or theft. I even use these cameras in my kid’s rooms. Built-in speaker and microphone.
Similar to the Nest Cam with one major difference. It is completely weatherproof, rain or shine. You can also opt to use the magnetic surface without drilling. Built-in speaker and microphone.
Home automation the easy way. Control your lights, appliances, electronics from anywhere, right from your phone. Create lighting schedules to turn on and off during the day. Works with Nest thermostat and Amazon Alexa (Echo & Dot).
Hands-free voice control for music, lights, switches, and thermostats. Alexa answers questions, reads books, reports on traffic, weather, and the news. Compatible with WeMo and Nest home devices.
Much like Amazon Echo but bite size. Voice-controlled to make your home smarter. Add Alexa to any room. Amazon Echo IS NOT required to use Echo Dot. Compatible with WeMo and Nest smart devices.
LED cover plate easily installs on any standard outlet. Turns On/Off automatically with its light sensor. Does not require wiring or batteries. Provides ambient lighting at night.
Control your lights from anywhere with your smartphone or tablet. Uses the Kasa app and is compatible with Amazon Alex/Dot. Set schedules, timers, and countdowns. No hub required! Works with your wi-fi router.
Simplicity and elegance combined. Just the right amount of light in the dark. Compact design that will not block the second outlet on the wall. Perfect for a space that needs some extra light during the night. Best of all, they are extremely affordable in packs of 4, 6, & 8.
Like so many these days I have “cut the chord” of cable and now use the Amazon Fire TV Stick on all my TV’s. The Fire TV Stick lets you ejoy 15,000 apps, games, and Alexa skills including Netflix, Hulu, HBO NOW, YouTube, Amazon Video, NBC, WatchESPN, Disney, and much more.
A featured product on Kickstarter the Sideclick is a slim universal remote attachment for streaming devices. A perfect accessory for cordcutters and streamers needing a simple universal remote to control your TV’s basic functions and your streaming device all-in-on. Sideclick can be programmed over multiple devices (TV, sound bar, receiver, blu-ray) using IR learning technology. Sideclick’s clip-on design attaches in a snap and allows you to utilize your streaming remote’s voice search feature which is lost in other universal remote options.
If you are like me then sleeping in silence can be difficult, especially when traveling. At the start of my Airbnb hosting endeavors it was recommended I provide a sound machine for my guests. After researching numerous sound machines I found that the Marpac Dohm provided the most customization and sound quality for my guests. It has fully adjustable tone and volume control for a personalized sound environment. Highly recommend!
I get a small referral fee, if you buy from above. It helps me continue making these blogs for you guys for free. This fee comes at no additional cost to you. Please understand that I have experience with all of these tools, and I recommend them because they are helpful and useful, not because of the commissions I make if you decide to buy something. Please do not spend any money on these products unless you feel you need them or that they will help you achieve your goals.
